Chewy, buttery blondie squares swirled with generous ribbons of Nutella. You need just one bowl and minimal prep work to make this super easy and quick dessert. Sounds fab, right?

I'm always on the look out for easy and simple bakes and this Nutella Blondies was the perfect recipe to get me baking. This recipe is ideal if you are looking for a dessert which is not complicated but doesn't compromise on taste and looks.

The browned butter very much elevates the flavor profile and Nutella gives that extra kick, not to forget the sprinkling of flaky sea salt. It ties up everything together.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Butter
  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup White sugar
  • 2 Large egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cup Plain flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 cup Nutella for swirling on top (refer notes for substitute)

Instructions

  • In a small heavy-bottomed saucepan, over low-medium heat, melt the butter, making sure to stir continuously. Continue cooking it for 3-5 minutes or until the butter is foamy and turns medium golden brown.
  • This process is called browning the butter. Keep a close eye on it because it can burn easily. Remove from the heat, transfer to a medium mixing bowl, and let the butter cool down to room temperature. It doesn't have to harden.
  • Preheat the oven to 350F/175 C 10 mins before baking. Line an 8×8 inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  • When the butter cools down to room temperature, using an electric beater, mix together the melted brown butter, white sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed until combined.
  • Add the eggs, and the vanilla extract and whip until everything is light and fluffy. This process will create a beautiful crinkly top.
  • Mix in the flour and salt just until the flour disappears. Make sure not to over mix the batter.
  • Spread the blondie mixture in the prepared 8X8 inch baking pan, top with dollops of Nutella, and swirl using a sharp knife or toothpicks. Bake for 25 minutes.
  • Once baked, pull out the blondies from the oven and allow them to cool down fully before slicing into them. I sprinkled a pinch of flaky sea slat on top of the blondies. They should be at room temperature. This will allow the bars to be fully set. Slice into equal squares and enjoy.

Notes

Though I didnt add any nuts this time, I strongly recommend you to add some chopped pecans or walnuts. It will give an added texture to the blondie. You can use around 1/3-1/2 cup of chopped nuts for this recipe. You can fold it in at the end of the recipe.
You will know that these blondies are done when the outside is set and the center still looks a tad bit underdone. You can also insert a toothpick in the center and it will come out with just a few crumbs when ready to be pulled out.
The secret is to allow the Nutella blondies to cool down and set fully before cutting into them to have those perfectly squared slices.
If you dont have Nutella, you can use melted dark chocolate to swirl in the batter.
You can store it at room temperature in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
