About Maria & Jose

I'm Maria. I'm from God's own country (Kerala, South India). I now live in a little metro called Kochi with my husband, Jose. You can read more about me here and here.

How We Got Started

Like many others, I discovered my love for cooking after marriage. I love cooking mainly because it gives you almost instant results. Unlike any other job, you don't have to wait for the semi-annual or annual review to know how you performed. (Jose has his own version of how MariasMenu was started!)

Also, I like experimenting something new every now and then and what a better way than trying out new recipes. I should warn you that not all experiments turn out successful, but then how can you enjoy good food without tasting some bad ones, right!?? Hey you don't worry, I've posted only the successful recipes here :). They're all tried, tasted and tested. You can trust them.

About The Recipes

These recipes are mostly from my family's and friend's collections. Some have been creatively adapted from some cookery books & TV shows or inspired by other chefs (I always give credit where it's due, you know, it's a karma thing). Being a Keralite, the majority of these recipes are Kerala recipes (South Indian). But I'm still open to all kinds of cooking experiments! I try my best to post at least once in a week.

The intention of this site is to share the good recipes that I have come across so that you also can try it & enjoy. So please go ahead… try these recipes & feel free to tell me your comments, suggestions, ideas. All these recipes are tested in my kitchen before posting here and I try my best to give the correct measurements. However, please adjust the measurements to suit your taste.

Are the photos copyrighted?

All of the photographs are taken by me. Most of the shots are done in our home. I use a Nikon D40x DSLR camera, with a Sigma prime/fixed 50mm lens (don't ask me more than this!). I humbly ask that you please give credit where credit is due and link back to the post from where the photo was taken from. We maintain the right to withdraw permission and request that our photo be removed from another site for any reason. Just follow the Golden Rule. Please don't steal the photos. We won't complain – but it's bad karma! Giving credit won't hurt :)

What is your commenting policy?
I really want MariasMenu to be an enjoyable and fun place. You can share your experience related to a recipe or give your suggestions or feedback. But remember, if you spam, be offensive, or just plain rude – I will delete those comments. Think of it as going to a friend's house, wouldn't you respect that friend?
How can I support MariasMenu?
MariasMenu is monetized for ads. So your views and the clicks (when was the last time you clicked on an ad? :) help me earn money to support all my costs from running MariasMenu. These costs include expensive servers for hosting high bandwidth traffic from loading all those pictures, special emailing software to make sure you get emails on time, as well as other software costs. And not to mention all the hard work that goes in selection of ingredients, recipe testing, developing, photographing and writing the content. If you'd like to support MariasMenu, you have the following options…

  • If you are an advertiser or brand and are interested working with MariasMenu, we would love to talk with to you. Advertise your product, service, blog or brand on MariasMenu, you can check out our Alexa Ranking before you advertise.
  • Buy some of our ebooks and ebooklets… (more coming soon!)
  • From time to time we may link to Amazon.com to help you find where you can easily buy kitchen tools or books we recommend. We do receive a small commission for any sales made from these links. These commissions, plus any fees from ads that are displayed on the site, support the running of MM. Buy great stuff from our Amazon Store

Where have I seen you before?
We've been featured or we've contributed to various publications. For more press mentions see the Press and Awards section of the website.
Can I republish your recipes?
If you love one of our recipes on MariasMenu and would like to share it on your own website, please 1) re-write the instructions in your own unique words (rather than copying and pasting ours), 2) write your own headnotes (do not copy ours) and 3) please provide a working link back to the source recipe on MariasMenu.com – We ask that you rewrite the recipes in your own words because Google penalizes sites when they see duplicate content on the web, making it more difficult for readers to find our recipes using Google search.
How do I start a food blog?
I'm not a technical person, so I'll leave that to Jose to explain things. He's done a pretty decent job of explaining how to start a food blog.

One more thing…

I hope you find the recipes useful, interesting and above all tasty. I'd love to hear from you, so please pour in your comments / suggestions / feedback / tips… anything is welcome :) And please don't forget to subscribe to this site. You can also follow MariasMenu on the following sites (yep, we're expanding!):
