Given a chance, I tend to proclaim my love for bread unabashedly. I mean, how can you not fall in love with all that carb goodness especially when it's adorned with salted butter or say cheese ;)?
Growing up my tiffin box mostly consisted of bread and butter or bread omelet or bread and beef fry. Though I've outgrown many of my childhood likes and habits, this is one thing I still hold close.
I'm happy and thankful that Jose shares my love for bread. The only difference is that he likes only white bread whereas I love bread with any kinda flour, as long as some flavor and texture are there.
We both love sandwiches and so it's something I make often.
This Tuna Melt is one of the simplest sandwiches that you can make at home. Just mix together a few ingredients and it hardly takes 5-6 mins to cook it.
If you are not a fan of tuna, you can use chicken and follow the rest of the recipe. Have some salad on the side and this is a very filling meal.
Here is the recipe…
Ingredients
- 2 tins Canned tuna (100 gms nt.weight each)
- 1 medium Onion (chopped)
- 2 tbsp Chopped parsley leaves
- 2-3 tbsp Chopped celery (optional)
- 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- 2 – 3 slices Thick bread (I used sourdough bread (refer notes))
- 1 medium Tomato (slices into rounds)
- 4 slices Cheese (Any melting cheese, I used Gouda slices)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven at 200 C for 5 mins, before using it.
- Drain the water/oil from canned tuna completely. Flake it with a fork. Add 1/4 cup mayonnaise, chopped parsley, celery, lemon juice to the drained and flaked tuna. Season with salt and pepper. Mix well.
- Apply the rest of the mayonnaise on one side of the bread slices. Top it with the tuna mixture.
- Spread tomato slices and cheese on top of the tuna mixture.
- Broil in a preheated oven at 200 C, for 4-5 mins or until the cheese is melted and browned a bit.
