  1. Hi!

Can you tell me how to prepare thick, medium and thin coconut milk using freshly grinded coconut and water? Can you also please tell me the same using canned coconut milk?

Looking forward to try this receipe.

    Thanks!

    • Hi Susan,

Honestly, am a bit embarrassed to say this, I’ve never cooked with fresh coconut milk, so I’m not sure about it.

Also I use coconut milk powder for all my cooking and so am not familiar with canned coconut milk. However you can add water and thin it out to make diff consistencies.

      Cheers
      Maria

    • What you could do from fresh coconut is add warm water and juice the coconut.
So first you will pour little warm water and grind the coconut and then pour that into a sieve and filter the milk. This will be the thick 1st milk.

Add more water and repeat the same and thus you get the 2nd and 3rd milk as well. Hope this helped.

    • Hi Sindhu,

Yes you can do that. Just add water to the canned coconut milk to get different consistencies.

Hope you get to try this soon. Happy cooking :)

      Cheers
      Maria

    • Nims – it refers to the different consistencies of coconut milk. Thin is almost water like consistency (moonam paal), medium is slightly thicker consistency (randam paal) and thick has a thick consistency (onnam paal/ thala paal)

      Hope it helps..

      • Thanks alot. I guessed so.But Sorry I donot know how to make them.Could you please tell me the quantities of cocunut or cocunut milk powder to be used?

        • You are welcome :)

To make coconut milk with coconut milk powder

for thick milk – add 3 heaped tbsp of coconut milk powder to 1 cup of lukewarm water, for medium thick – add 2 heaped tbsp of coconut milk powder to 1 cup lukewarm water and for thin milk, add 1 heaped tbsp to 1 cup lukewarm water.

Yes, you can use any fish that’s kinda fleshy. Some readers have posted comments saying that they tried this with salmon & came out well. You can also use Pearlspot (karimeen) & pomfret for this.

  26. Hey Mariachi…Suzette here :)

My hubby & myself tried your fish molly recipe. It was fantastic!!!! Delicious & finger licking (as per my hubby).

We used 1 & half cans of coconut cream instead of the light, medium and thick coconut milk. We also added 2 cups of water. It worked fine :)

Cant wait to try your beef recipes!!!

special thanks to your Tessyaunty :)

    • Suzette dear

Hope you guys are doing good..

I forgot to mention that while making the fish molly, we used salmon instead of king fish. You only need less cooking time with salmon. It tasted great!!!

Try it with tomato also and see, hope you will like that too.

      Cheers
      Maria

  29. hey,i have a doubt like,if we add tomatoes in this molly, will it turn to red colour..no?hw u r gttng this yellow colour rather?instead of tomato, can we use vinegar..plzzz mail me..i dndnt prepared yet .anyways thanks for ur recipe/

    • Hi Arathi

Regarding adding tomatoes, the curry wont become red colour because of tomato. Yes there will a slight change in the colour but it doesnt turn to red completely. I’ve used turmeric powder while marinating the fish, thats why it has the yellow colour.

I think you can use vinegar instead of tomato. Since I havent tried it yet, am not sure about the qty. I guess for that traditional taste of fish molly, you need to add tomatoes ( just my guess…)

      Cheers
      Maria

  30. I have added 1 piece of “kudampuli” in this when I made this for a home party Wow it tasted goo & all loved the dish along with appam & rice tooo
