Tuna Avocado Sandwich

We’ve already established that I love sandwiches. Any form, any time of the day—I’m always in.

From good old bread, butter, and jam to fully drenched, loaded sandwiches, I love them all. And judging by the comments and messages I get from you, I think you do too.

This tuna avocado sandwich is as simple as it gets. Honestly, there’s no real recipe here—you just throw together a handful of ingredients and you’re good to go.

I always keep canned tuna stocked at home. It’s my go-to on lazy days or when I need something quick and fuss-free. While I don’t enjoy tuna on its own, once it’s dressed up with a few of my favourite ingredients, I genuinely love it.

The best part about this tuna avocado sandwich is how versatile it is. You can easily customise it based on what you have in your fridge. And if you’re trying to skip the extra calories from bread, you can enjoy the same mix as a salad instead.

Sandwich or salad—either way, it’s absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 can Tuna (net wt:170 gms) (refer notes)
  • 1 medium -big Avocado (cubed)
  • 1 small-medium Onion (chopped)
  • 1 small Cucumber (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp Pickles (chopped, optional)
  • 3 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Mustard (I used dijon mustard)
  • 1/2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1/2-1 tbsp Chilli crisp (refer notes)
  • 6-8 Cherry tomatoes (optional)
  • Bread/Croissants (refer notes)

Instructions

  • Drain the oil/water from the canned tuna and fluff it with a fork.
  • In a bowl, combine together chopped onion, cucumber, drained tuna, avocado, cherry tomato (if using) and chopped pickles (if using).
  • Mix together mayo, mustard, lemon juice and chilli crisp (if using).
  • Add the mayo mix to the tuna avocado mix and combine everything well. Taste and adjust the seasoning, if required.
  • Butter one side of each slice of bread. Invert the bread slices and apply tuna mayo paste on one of the slices and sandwich with the other.
  • Melt 1/2 – 1 tbsp butter in a non stick pan and place the sandwich. Cook on low-medium flame for 2-3 mins, till the bottom side is browned, flip and cook for another 2-3 mins till the other side is toasted.

Notes

I used canned tuna in olive oil. You can use any variety of canned tuna for this.
I used chilli crisp for the heat, you can use jalapenos or black pepper instead.
I used mini croissants for the sandwich and I got around 6 sandwiches from the above qty.
If using croissants, slice the croissants in the middle and put the filling inside. Apply some butter on top of the croissants and I air fried it at 200 C for 3-4 mins.
I didnt add any salt since the tuna, mayo and chilli crisp already had salt.
