Egg & Peas Kurma

Sometime back, one of Jose's colleague told him, “hey, I heard your wife has a food website, so she is a great “cooker” eh?” Jose was like…”cooker”? He replied ” Yeah, she cooks well” to which that person replied “You are lucky to have a good cooker as your wife” ;) So now I've been tagged with the title “cooker” blogger ;)

If you are the cooker of your family ;), I'm sure that you will agree with me if I say….it take less time to cook than to decide “what to cook”. I've heard from many friends that they don't mind cooking as long as they know what to cook. That decision making is the toughest part for many and consumes most of our precious time. Even I've the same confusion at times… egg recipes come to my rescue at these times. When I'm in doubt about what to cook or if I don't have many choices, I always go for  an egg curry. It's easy to make and it goes with almost anything.

I've bookmarked this recipe long time ago, but finally made it the other day when I had no clue as to what to make.

Here is the recipe…

  1. I was looking for vegetable kurma recipe (since we are vegetarians :-) ). Are these the same spices with a change in the main ingredients to mixed veggies? or is it a different combination of spices? My next question – will there be a veg kurma recipe coming up soon?

    • Hi Tanu,

You can make veg kuruma with this recipe too. I guess there are diff types of veg kuruma, so this can be considered as one version. A proper veg kurma recipe is there on my to do list, but I’m not sure when will it make an appearance on the site ;)

      Cheers

      • Thank you Maria. I will try this recipe with veggies. The thing is, my kurma’s taste went off beat last few times I made it and I truly have no idea what I did different. Your site has been my go to recipe book for any doubts I have in cooking especially nadan recipes and I’m sure I am not the only one who has said this. (I hope I have given you more reasons to bring Veg Kurma somewhere to the top of your to do list ;-) ). Lastly, something you already know…. you are doing a great job on this lovely site… :-)

  7. This recipe is killer and so easy. I didn’t have any coconut milk, so I substituted with evaporated milk and a little water. My husband had some for dinner, enjoyed it enough to take the leftovers for lunch the next day (he hates leftovers!) and said it ‘hit the spot’ which is high praise from him. I will def. be making this again. Thank you!

  11. Dear Maria, tried out the recipe. Came out really well. The taste was good a little different though. Before frying onions I put little kadug and then the same procedure. Kadug for me is the BEAUTY SPOT to any dish. Just like your cooker, Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I laughed away to glory reading that.
Had tried the Ingi curry also for Vishu. That was just fantastic. I will never buy the Taste bud ingi curry again. All thanks to you. Keep going, we are following you.

  13. Hey Maria, my wife liked it too and shes not too easy to please as shes a good cook herself. But then shes a matter of fact person, she said the recipe has strong spices so its good to be tried with chicken also.So next we will try the recipe with chicken, should be good. Wasnt too spicy when we ate it, looks like I always taste from the “tavee” which has the spices, so it will always taste spicier. A spico-meter will be a good tool. Good stuff Maria.Ta

  14. came out really well, a tad spicy for my taste but still good and considering I forgot the chillis. It would ve been a killer with them. But nice, now to wait for wifeys comments. I feel that u can put a spice meter at bottom of recipe to indicate spiciness, that will be helpful. Good stuff Maria.

  19. I recently had my second son and I realised planning meals is the most hectic one of all. I restarted what I used to do long time ago- Sunday evening i plan the menu for the week(Its mainly dinner as thats the meals we as the family have together ) So i plan breakfast essentials and lunch essential with which meal i will cook and write it down in my meal planner. Then with that in hand I make the shopping list. This prevents me from buying extra unnecessary things for that week and I only need to go once a week except for bread and milk. Sticks to my budget and i clear off slowly the storecupboard items preventing the overstocking and expiries.

Hi Maria, njaan aa cooker story vaayichu chirichu chirichu mannu kappiyillenney ullu….I have a feeling that collegue was an arab?…cos i had a similar story which really brought me into so much laughter.During our hostel days,we had to cook. It was my turn on alternate thursdays and all i knew waS GHEE RICE AND CURRY,, at that time. And after having my food, always my friends used to pass that comment “You are a good cooker”….lol…

About the 2nd para, very true, i waste more time to think what to cook than cooking….After each dinner i will have to think what to cook for next days dinner…..And how much i hate it…thank u for teh tip….when i have no clue, i will get the egg roast (Ur recipe, which is regular one..) for rescue.
