Happy B’day & A Giveaway

Let me tell you in advance, this post doesn't have any recipe, but I've got something else for you. If you are in a hurry, please scroll down to see what it is!

Yep, it's birthday time. This little space is celebrating its 5th b'day! Ohh yes, I'm so happy & thrilled! Looking back, I still remember the time when I went for shopping with my mother-in-law a few days after my wedding. We went to a ‘pathrakada' (vessel store). Mummy was enthusiastically picking out appachatti, puttu kutti n stuff like that for me to take to Bahrain. Truth be told, I almost felt like a lightening hit me. I was like OMG ! am I the one who is going to need all these stuff, because I thought all I'll ever need is shoes n bags!  Suddenly I felt like it was too hot inside that shop and I got a feel of the Bahrain summer, worse… the heat of the kitchen :) My only survival kit was the small little diary of recipes by my aunt Tesschechy. Fast forward five years and I now have a food blog still running! I agree with whoever said ‘Marriage is a turning point'.

Blogging has very much become a part of my life. These days, the first question I'm being asked is about my blog. I wanna tell you… Sometimes blogging is like taking a walk in a beautiful park with your friends & at times it feels like climbing a steep mountain without an oxygen mask. There are times I've thought of quitting. Even recently I was telling Jose that I'm planning to close shop, while the going was good. But then.. when I see your comments, and all compliments from friends and family saying how much these recipes have helped you, it brings a smile on my face. Your support & encouragement makes my climbing easier! So this time, we have decided to say thank you not just in words, but with action!

Before we get to the details of the giveaway, a word about the above pic. I baked this cake for a friend's b'day. Since this was an experiment, I didn't note down the details. But how can I have a b'day post without a cake, so its here.

Here are the details of the giveaway:

  1. $30 Amazon Gift Coupons For 5 Amazing Persons!
  2. Your choice of “Devil's Food cupcake with Chocolate Ganache” or “Vanilla cupcakes with Butterscotch Icing & Praline Topping”. I'll bake a dozen homemade cupcakes for 2 individuals staying in Bahrain. If you are not in Bahrain, you can recommend your friend/relative staying in Bahrain and they can enjoy it for you! No Deliveries, Just Pickups. I live in Juffair area, if you want to get an idea of the location.

How to participate?

Ok, I wont ask you to paint your FB walls with this post (re posting on FB), I wont ask you to press the love/hate button on my FB page (liking my FB page), I wont ask you to enter the email id & wait for the postman to come  & ask you to acknowledge the receipt (email subscription),  I wont even ask you to whisper this to your friend through a small little blue colour birdie (tweet), but if you want to do all or any of that, go ahead. I wont say NO. Who am I to stop you from spreading a little joy around ;)?  Ok, Jokes apart, all you need to do is leave a comment under this post. If you are interested in homemade cupcakes giveaway, please mention it specifically. Kindly note that any emails you send in relation to this post will not be included in the giveaway list. This giveaway is open till June 23rd.

Once again, Thank You for being there for us!

Love

Maria & Jose

  52. Hey Maria

Please dont ever think of closing shop…. you dont want to take a huge responsibility of closing many kitchens around the world :)))  Many marriages are secretly surviving on your recipes… so every time that thought crosses your mind… think of all the new brides who are making their new home… & think of how you are an important part of their lives & their new homes :)

This is my first comment here ever! I was in Bahrain for a good 15-16 years. I met my husband there… so Bahrain holds a very special place in my heart. We are now based in California. I have introduced your blog to all the mallu ladies I know & we all love cooking your recipes… they feel like mom’s home made food! Living far away from home, your recipes are our only solace :)

Congrats on the 5th anniversary! Lets all celebrate more anniversary’s as years pass by…. :)

Seriously with you around, I can forget about dieting for good!! hehehehe…I don’t live n Bahrain “sigh” so relishing your cupcakes wouldn’t be a possibility at the moment. But who knows, I may just fly down there to visit you and acquaint myself with the diva of food blogging herself, Maria Jose Martin!!!

Sweets, I’ve said this before but I have to say it again, your recipes are the most accurate I’ve followed so far, especially with regards to baking. You, being a baker par excellence, would appreciate the importance of good and detailed instructions in that arena and for apprentice bakers, like me, you’re a godsend. Following your accurate methods, we end up with beautiful cakes and instigates us to bake more!!!!

So here’s to you and congrats on the 5th year mark. You’re an inspiration in words and deeds, as well. May you reach higher pinnacles of success!!!

Can’t wait for the release of your book!

  77. Hi Maria,

Congratulations on the 5yr anniversary… I love your blog.. I have been one of ur silent followers…I’m not commenting right now to win ur giveway though that would be cool. :P

I have hooked almost the entire womenfolk in my family to your site… we religiously follow ur site and have discussions on the new recipes that you post…Its always a competition as to who’ll try out the recipe first…

I wish i was living in Bahrain so i could get to taste one your cupcakes… Sigh!! One day i’ll visit there just to try it….

    Regards,
    Sonia
