    • Hi Linzu,

Thank you so much and my apologies for the delayed reply.

I guess, you can do baking in MW only if its a microwave convection oven. My MW baking knowledge is very limited, so as far as my understanding goes, baking doesn’t work in a regular MW.

  4. Hi Maria,
Thanks for this recipe:)Really want to try this cake…but m having 13×9 baking pan and i like to make layer cake as well.Should I need to double this ingredients? Please clarify on baking time as well…

    • Hi Viji,

      You are welcome!

If you want a layer cake, it’s better to double the qty. I guess it will take around 35-45 mins. Again the time varies for each oven, so use this as a guideline.

      Cheers

  8. Maria, Doubts from a first time baker – one side of my cake was raised a little and tht part top got burned, but otherwise cake came fine making me confident enuf to try it one more time :) . did it happen because i didnt mix the batter well? I followed ur mixing timings and baking timings xactly as u mentioned. or shd i pour the cake into mould and make it even again? I used silicon mould, wil that cahgne the baking time?

    Reply
    • Hi Reshmi,

Thanks for trying this cake dear :) Though I’ve given the baking time in the recipe, it very much depends on your oven. Diff oven has diff timing.

It’s always better to level the cake batter after pouring it into the mould. Also try tapping the cake tin a few times before placing it in the oven. I havent baked in a silicon mould, so I’m not familiar with it.

Hope your cake comes out perfect next time, All the best and happy baking!

      Cheers

    • Hi Div,

Yu can serve this cake sprinkled/dusted with some icing sugar on top and drizzle some chocolate sauce on the cake.

I used Hershey’s readymade chocolate sauce.

  14. Dear Maria,
First and foremost, let me thank you for initiating me into baking. Have been very reluctant, cos I always had a notion that even if you had all the ingredients you could go wrong. My dear, you proved me wrong with this wonderful chocolate cake recipe which I tried out for the first time on my hubby’s b’day, and it was really great to see the look on his face when we ( me and the kids) woke him up on his B’day with the home-made cake…..I am truly a convert now and intend to try all your baking recipes, besides some of the chicken and cauliflower recipes that I have already tried. Keep up the good work going and lovely snaps of the dishes too…
Thanks sweetie and regards to Jose too..

    • Hi Leniya,

I’m not sure whether you are asking this in general or in relation to this particular recipe?

For baking, its always advisable to do what’s said in the recipe. For each cake, the technique used can be different.

  19. Dear Maria,

Looks like a lovely chocolate cake recipe. Will be trying it out today. Hey, just a small query, I wanted to know when you bake a cake in the oven, do you need to put the HEATER SELECT on TOP, BOTTOM OR BOTH? Some told me to put it on BOTH and others on BOTTOM. Im curious. Please let me know.

And also, when you say melt the butter, do we need to melt it on the stove or just let it melt naturally. I actually haven’t done too much cake baking, so please let me know.

    Regards,

    • Dear Donna

Thank you :) Did you try this cake yet? I’m sorry dear for the delayed reply. I was on a holiday & hence the delay.

I usually put the heater select on both, top & bottom. About melting the butter, you have to do it on stove top or microwave. I usually melt it on stove top.

      Hope this helps…

All the best for baking and I’m sure you will love it :)

      Cheers

  20. Hi Maria,

I tried out the chocolate cake and it turned out to be excellent. I did not add eggs. However, there was this very fine bite in the cake………like bitting tiny crystals of sugar or grains of sand…..is it normal? Cause other wise the taste was simply superb.

    Reply
    • Hi Ligy,

Thanks dear :). Great to know that the cake came out well. Did you replace eggs with anything or simply omitted it? I havent tried the eggless version, so just curious to know :)

About the tiny crystal like texture, it usually happens when the sugar is not mixed well with other ingredients. But in this recipe we use powdered sugar, so that problem cannot be there. I’m not sure whether lack of eggs can affect the texture.

Anyways, thanks for trying the recipe & for the comment. I’m on vacation presently & hence the delayed rep, sorry about it :(

Wish you & your family a happy & blessed new year!

    • Hi Sumi,

Yes you can bake a cake using half the qty. Take half of each ingredient. But use a smaller baking tin, since the qty will be less. Also the baking time will be less, since its a small cake.

Happy baking & all the best!

      Hope you’ll like it :)

      Cheers

    • Hi Sheaba,

Soda bicarbonate and baking soda is same.

Substituting baking soda with baking powder, I’m not very sure about it. However in some sites they have given 1 tsp baking soda is equal to 2 tsp baking powder.
